We will ride our motorcycles over passes higher than 5,000 metres, visit the most important Tibetan monasteries and discover half-forgotten ancient cities. Our road will lead us on this tibet tour to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, the former residence of the Dalai Lama, as well as down lonely country roads and through dreaming landscapes almost abandoned by humankind. Breathtaking landscapes await us in the expanses of the Himalayas and on the highest mountains of the world at the base camp on Mount Everest. Daily Itinerary: Trans Tibet Motorcycles Tour

DayRoute: Description
1First meeting in Chengdu: Arrival in Chengdu. Transfer to your hotel and free time for acclimatization. Traditional Sichuan dinner in the evening. Get to know the Tibetmoto Team and your fellow Tibet motorcycles tour riders.
2Flight to Lhasa: Next morning, we will fly to Lhasa from Chengdu airport. After the arrival we visit the Potala Palace, the former residence of the Dalai Lama.
Flight time: 2 hours
3Lhasa: Today you need to apply for your driving licences. In the afternoon we take a walk and visit the famous Bharkor market and, in the company of hundred of pilgrims, walk around the Jokhang temple in the old city. The Jokhang temple is one of the most important temples for Tibetans and a must-seen in Lhasa. Overnight stay near the old town.
4 Lhasa: We will pick up our licence once they are ready and enjoy another beautiful day in Lhasa. In the afternoon, we’ll make a trip to the Ganden Monastery, located on 4,100 meters. The road leading up to the monastery is very curvy and we get a first impression of how phantastic the coming days will be. Since the issuance of the Tibet motorcycles driver´s license sometimes takes more time, this day is reseved for additional paper work (if necessary).
The excursion to Ganden monastery is only possible if all paperwork has been finished.

5
Lhasa — Tsedang:
On the first Tibet motorcycle tour riding day we travel to the south east of Lhasa and follow the wide Yarlung Tsangpo river. After lunch, we visit the famous Samye monastery and continue riding across a vast desert valley to Yumbu Lakang, Tibet´s first building and palace of Tibet´s first king.
3 hours / 160 kilometer
6Tsedang – Gyangze: From Tsedang we ride along the Yarlung Tsangpo to Yamdrok Lake. Winding roads with views of the azure blue lake far below make our first day on the road a real experience on this motorcycle tour of Tibet.
We make a stop along the way to take pictures and to enjoy the panoramic view.
We drive over Nagartse near the first snow-covered foothills of the Himalayas and onward over the 5,100 m Karo La Pass to Gyangtse. Depending on our arrival time, we will visit an old fort in Gyangtse (Gyangtse Dzong) that thrones majestically above the city.
The Buddhist Pelkhor Monastery was built in 1427 and is known as the monastery of the ten thousand paintings. With its four storeys, 108 chapels, and over 10,000 wall paintings, this is the biggest stupa (pagoda) in Tibet.
6 hours / 318 kilometer

7 Gyangze – Sakya: Leaving Gyangze the tour continues on the Friendship Highway to Lhatse. Before we get to Lhatse, we will make a detour to the Sakya monastery in a green highland valley. The green hills offer a lovely contrast to the Tibetan highlands of the previous day’s journey. The Sakya monastery was once one of the most important in Tibet. Its Mongolian architecture gives it an appearance completely different from the other monasteries in Tibet. After arriving in Lhatse, it is possible to take a short walk to the old fortress (Karu Dzong), 14 kilometers away. This excursion is only possible if we arrive early enough.
4,5 hours / 242 kilometer

8Sakya – Everest Basecamp: From Sakya, the road goes south and snakes its way further up into the Himalaya mountains, where we will have a good view of the world’s 8,000m high mountains and the surrounding valleys.
An unbelievable hairpin road with dozens of turns and views on several 8000 meter high Himalayan mountains leads you to the Rongpu Monastery, where we arrive in the afternoon. To get there, you must cross several 5000 meter high passes on a phantastic new road which was build in 2016 – one of the greatest roads on earth. Shortly after Rongbu Monastery, the road permitted for our motorcycles comes to an end. It is possible to walk to the base camp, which takes about 1 hour or to take a public vehicle.
At the camp, you can enjoy the view and take breathtaking photos. The earlier we get to the base camp, the better the view normally is. You have enough time to spend several hours here Overnight stay in the basic inn of the Rongbu monastery.
5,5 hours / 233 kilometer
9Everest Basecamp – Shigatse: In the morning you can enjoy the sunrise around the Everest. An entire day of motorcycles riding gets us back to Shigatse. On the way we not only cross Gyatso La (5,220 meter)but you enjoy the once more breathtaking scenery of Tibet from your motorbike.
7 hours / 334 kilometer

10Shigatse – Namtso Lake: After leaving Shigatse, we leave the main road and ride on backroads to Namtso lake.
We reach the broad salt lake Namtso—one of the biggest in Tibet– in the late afternoon. The presence of the opposite shore of the lake is often only hinted at. We will ride along the shore which invites us to explore the surroundings – grazing  yaks, small monasteries, meditation caves and hills that can be climbed.
We let the day end with the sunset on the shore of the lake. With a cold beer, we let the day’s experiences pass in review.
8 hours / 390 kilometer
11
Namtso lake – Lhasa: Today, we take the main road with its fantastic panoramas to Lhasa.
Here, you can experience the country of Tibet for the last time and say goodbye to this unique country and its people
4,5 hours / 228 kilometer
