Daily itinerary: Exclusive Photo Journey in South Yunnan

Day Route: Description
1 International flight to Kunming:

After arrival in Kunming transfer to the Hotel (approx. 1 hour drive). In the evening we meet for the welcome dinner, to get to know each other and discuss the touring..

2 Kunming – Dongchuan Redlands:

Since yesterday was arrival day and we will have some strenous days ahead, we will get up late and enjoy our last western breafast until tour end. We leave at around 11am and drive around 4 hours to the Dongchuan Red Soil area. Shortly before arrival we have the first shooting possibility, as the area there is ideal in the afternoon sun. After check-in we meet for dinner and afterwards head for the first sunset shoot.

3 Dongchuan Redlands:

Today we get up early for the sunrise shoot which means leave by car at around 5:30. There are two major spots for sunrise and we will decide on sport which one we will head to. We will have enough time on spot that also time-lapse shots will be possible. Afterwards we head to one of the villages for our local breakfast. We may do a toilet stop at the hotel and depending on the light and weather situation may also do a nap break. In the afternoon we head for more shooting and of course will do the sunset again. Dinner will be before or after the sunset.

4 Dongchuan Redlands – Luoping:

In the morning we have another chance for the sunset and in the later morning we head towards Luoping, which will take us around 4-5 hours. Luoping is the largest Rape seed producer in China and what makes it special are the picturesque Karst mountains embedded in the middle of endless rape flower fields. The colors make a huge contrast and are a dream for any landscape photographer. In the afternoon we discover the various shooting locations, depending on the timing and in the evening we head for the sunset.

5 Luoping:

Again weg et up early and head tot he Golden Rooster Hill, the main shooting location. Be warned, we wont be alone as there are tons of Chinese photographers who climb the Hill already the evening before, so we need patience and flexibility as the best spots to setup the tripods will be taken. Aftgerwards we have a local breakfast in one of the villages and then we head to the nearby waterfall. In the afternoon we head back to the Rooster Hill, as it is pretty ideal to shoot even in early afternoon, as soon as the sun is a bit behind. In the afternoon we may have a nap and / or discover the other places. Of course we head fort he sunset shoot again.

6 Luoping:

Today we will go to a sunrise lcoation away from the crowds and the rest of the day we plan according to weather and light.

7 Luoping – Jianshui:

Today is the last chance for the sunrise shoot and we may head to Rooster Hill again. Later we drive to Jianshui which will take around 5-6 hours. Jianshui is a former fortress town so the afternoon will be more street architecture photography. Since we skip sunset today and sunrise tomorrow. We can try in the evening the local liquor.

8 Jianshui – Yuanyang:

9+10 Yuanyang:

We spend both days in Yuanyang and visit the different areas. Of course we always get up early for sunrise and do the sunset. Be aware that there are lots of photographers around as we do our best to avoid them as good as possible.

11 Yuanyang – Fuxian lake:

Last chance for the sunrise and then we head in around 6-7 hours to Fuxian Lake. Since the drive form there to Kunming airport is not much longer than from Kunming, but offers a great Hilton resort with view on the lakeshore, that’s where we spend our last evening.
